Pininfarina's last road-going 250 — for many, the most elegant Ferrari of the era and the quietest of the great V12 berlinettas.
Pininfarina's last road-going 250 and, for many, the most elegant Ferrari of the era. Rosso Rubino over tan leather, Colombo V12 with the original quad-cam soundtrack intact. Low mileage, meticulously serviced.
Model background
The 250 GT Lusso closed out Ferrari's long-running 250 series in the early sixties. Designed by Pininfarina and bodied by Scaglietti, it was conceived as the refined, road-focused member of the family: the same Colombo V12 architecture, but tuned for touring rather than competition.
Only a few hundred were built, and the Lusso has since become one of the most admired Ferrari road cars of the period.
Design and character
The cabin sits far back over a long bonnet, the roofline tapers into a Kamm-style tail, and the interior is unusually theatrical — large central instruments with the smaller dials angled toward the driver.
Rosso Rubino over tan leather is a deeper, more restrained red than the obvious Ferrari scarlet, which suits period and editorial work.
Historical significance
The Lusso closed the 250 series, the family of cars on which Ferrari's early road-car reputation was built, and it did so in the most road-focused form the series ever took.
Its combination of small production numbers and Pininfarina design has kept it among the most admired Ferraris of the period in collector circles.
Why productions choose it
This is the Ferrari to use when a scene calls for taste rather than noise. The deeper rubino red and restrained detailing read as period luxury rather than modern performance.
The airy cabin makes interior coverage unusually workable for a car of its age, and the V12 provides authentic period sound for productions recording on location.
On camera
Notes for directors, DPs and photographers planning to put this car in frame.
- Delicate, glass-heavy greenhouse makes interior dialogue coverage straightforward.
- Deep rubino red avoids the clipping that brighter Ferrari reds can cause under strong key light.
- The V12 provides authentic period sound for anyone recording live audio.
